Welcome to G-Netix! The installation program INSTALL.EXE on the CD will create a Program Manager group for G-Netix. If you haven't done this already, you can run it by selecting "Run..." from the "File" menu in the Program Manager and typing "X:\INSTALL" for the command line (where "X" is the letter of your CD-ROM drive). Manual errata: G-Netix now has 4 game levels. These may be set when the Control Room appears, by pulling down the "Level" menu. Tutorial Mode: The embryo has only one mutation, the left arm is an insect arm. (This is the mutation shown in the tutorial movie on the CD-ROM version) In addition, when you select a mutated cell with the cross hairs, the window not only shows the body part that is mutated, but also the chromosome and the gene on the chromosome with the mutation. Beginner Mode: The embryo has only 4 mutations. They are all mutations with visible effects (that is, they appear in the extrapolation when you hit the embryo test button and select extrapolation) And as in tutorial mode, when you select a mutated cell with the cross hairs, the window not only shows the body part that is mutated, but also the chromosome and the gene on the chromosome with the mutation. Intermediate mode: This is the same as the old "Basic" mode. The embryo has 10 mutations. Some do not have visible effects, but all are simple mutations. Advanced mode: This has not changed. The embryo has no initial mutations, but mutations occur as time passes. All kinds of mutations can happen, not just visible ones. The nutrient media levels fluctuate, and infections will happen. The manual which currently comes with G-Netix was written for the Macintosh version of the program. The two programs are almost identical, but there are some minor differences which are documented in the G-Netix Technical Supplement which is provided with G-Netix for Windows. Requirements: * The Windows 3.1 operating system * A 100% PC compatible computer with at least 4Mbytes of extended memory. (More is better; If you have memory trouble, try turning on virtual memory using the 386 Enhanced control panel) * A 25Mhz 80386 is the absolute minimum required for this program. A faster machine is required for good performace. * A SVGA video card is required. One which is also a Windows accelerator is STRONGLY recommended. NOTE: When you run G-Netix, you should have a 640 x 480 x 256 colors video driver for your video card installed. You can change the video driver using the "Windows Setup" program which can usually be found in the "Main" group in the Program Manager. Select "Change System Settings" from the "Options" menu and then select the appropriate video driver for your display card from "Display". * To play sound, you must have a Windows compatible sound card (such as Creative Labs' Soundblaster).
